Wednesday, July 16th City Council Meeting Resolution on Automated Traffic Enforcement A note from Councilman Saleh: I have on the Council agenda a resolution advocating for the state to allow large municipalities such as Jersey City to opt into automated traffic enforcement (i.e.: speed cameras, cameras on buses for bus lanes, school buses for when they unfurl their stop sign, etc.) in order for us to achieve our Vision Zero goals. The City has adopted Vision Zero, the County, and even NJ has a statewide body to advise on how to achieve Vision Zero statewide. Given the density of Jersey City, we should be allowed to opt-into automated traffic enforcement. Many of the Jersey ‘burbs don’t like it but I believe it makes sense for large cities in high crash corridors. This resolution is Co-Sponsored by Council President Watterman. Visit the Resident Response Center, or submit a request HERE. These requests go straight to city employees responsible for responding to them. The more requests we submit on the public record, the more pressure we can place on city officials to make real change. Street Safety Committee: The VVNA has created a new committee focused on community-driven, proactive & preventative street safety. This committee will gather community feedback on dangerous intersections, propose solutions, and hold city hall officials accountable to real and meaningful change.
