Dear Neighbors,
I have been fascinated by the concept of kindness for a long time and recently came across this definition by Mark Twain. "Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see." When I read it I was overwhelmed by the beauty and profundity of his words. You have heard me celebrate the thread of kindness that is woven into our community. Kindness requires social interaction which we all experience as we navigate our days. It requires patience, an open heart, and a listening ear. And it often requires courage. My father always said that kindness could be as simple as sharing a smile or saying thank you. Being kind to one another sustains us. And we need this more than ever to guide us through our complicated world. Harper Lee wrote in To Kill A Mockingbird: "Real courage is when you know you're licked before you begin, but you begin anyways and see it through no matter what." Kindness will prevail and so will we. Thank you for being part of our neighborhood.
