July Meeting Follow-up from Jennifer Wong, Director of Traffic Engineering: “We’ve presented already new ordinances to Council to restrict right turns on red at [Montgomery at Grove and Jersey] as well as all the other traffic signals along Montgomery St. We are also working with Statewide Striping to push the eastbound stop bar of Montgomery St at Grove St to provide better visibility of approaching vehicles.”

201 Newark is on the Zoning Board Agenda for Thursday, Aug 8th.  It is critical that we have people show up in person to testify against this project. 

The meeting starts at 6:30pm in the Boardroom at the Holloway Building, City Hall Annex, 4 Jackson Square, Jersey City, NJ 07305. The building
is also known as 39 Kearney Avenue, Jersey City, NJ 07305. For people who need a ride the Saffron on Newark Avenue is offering car rides (follow the link on the flyer above to sign up)

Many of you are aware of traffic problems on Bright Street between Jersey Avenue and Monmouth during school drop off and pick up times on weekdays as school buses and parents in cars crowd into the area near the school. The result is a logjam that makes it virtually impossible to get through the area and has led to conflict between individuals vying for access.

In an effort to improve this situation the VVNA has been meeting with city traffic and law enforcement officials as well as Ward F councilman Frank Gilmore and the Principles of the primary and middle schools.

The VVNA has been asked to collect feedback from the community in terms of how best to improve the situation and in particular your thoughts on making Bright Street one way either permanently or during drop off and pickup times during the week.

Neighbors Needed to Table for VVNA at the Farmers Market!

Do you enjoy being a part of the Van Vorst Neighborhood Association? Do you think that the events we host or the topics we spread awareness about are worth sharing? Book Swap Volunteers Needed

Our next book swap is scheduled for 8/10. We’re looking for volunteers to help us collect books at the gazebo the evening of 8/9, help us carry & organize books the morning of 8/10, and help us pack up the swap after it is over! Interested? Email us at welcome@vvnajc.org to volunteer.

DJ Needed for Disco in the Park!
